The Privacy Thread
#1
With an event like this making the news, it raises the question of privacy in the digital age. Are we giving up our privacy for the convenience of the internet? With storing everything on cloud becoming a popular option, it seems like it.

I'm mortified that the US government has access to every bit of data about me that's ever touched the internet even though I've never done anything illegal. If I remember correctly they supposedly had to ask the tech giants for an individual's data to be handed over, not mine it all...

Any thoughts on this instance/online privacy in general?

Even though a lot of us can just use the cover of "I've never done anything illegal" it's still a heinous disregard for our rights and privacy. I know a lot of my professors in college are gonna be freaking out over this, that's for sure.
Not really sure what else to say. Shit just kinda sucks, y'know?

Don't worry, citizens. This is all for your own protection. We need to monitor everything at all times so we can keep you good folks safe from the terrorists.
Just go about your lives as normal, and everything will be fine. Yes...

Yes, thanks to our trusty source we now know full well Obama likely conceived and had total control of this heinous operation. March on the White House, they've gone too far! It's time to overthrow the government!

That DOES suck, now that I think about it... I certainly wouldn't want some nerd in a government spy tank drooling over all the stuff I've uploaded to the internet of myself, and all my personal emails and chats O.o

My only concern right now is that Snowden singlehandedly damaged a bunch of US relations due to his leaks on our lack of privacy. Like, it's one thing if he exposed the surveillance stuff as a means of getting the public's attention on privacy breaches, but he's also caused a ton of trust issues with the US and China, Hong Kong, Russia, Ecuador, and (most recently) Germany and France and the rest of the European Union with the wild goose chase and additional leaking.

I just don't want to see us enter another Cold War because of this.

/pol/ pls

Oh I guess I should give this post some substance. Yeah, this is a pretty dang bad thing, and I seriously wish they wouldn't do this, but to pin all the blame on Obama is dumb.
