This is probably Project X Zone.
Project X Zone already had a teaser website, though.

Sure it an expanded adventure mode, but it was different. It tried to add a story that ended up turning out like a silly fan fiction.

Bear in mind the game play isn't the only factor that can take the game into a different direction and honestly, I felt SSE was a bad move in my opinion.

I wouldn't even call it a fanfiction, to be perfectly honest; it was more or less a "hey guys we made a Kirby game, let's just throw in random Nintendo characters here and there for no real reason!"

That's the only reason why I'm saying it was like a fan fiction.

Brawl really did feel like Melee with more characters slapped on, so it wouldn't surprise me if this one shook things up a bit (specially with the talent they have behind the game). The series has defiantly came to the point where more simply isn't enough.

One of the Guilty Gear games (been a while and those titles are loooong) had a single player mode much like Streets of Rage/Final Fight. It wasn't great (aka one type of enemy and that's it) but the idea was good. A single player (well co-op/adventure whatever the hell you want to call it) mode made with a different engine etc. would be really cool in my own opinion. And everyone loves co-op side-scrolling beat-em ups.

Honestly that's bullshit. If Brawl was anything like melee it'd be more faster paced and it be more fun to pull off combos non stop.

and then there is wave dashing.

SSE was an ingame fangame built with the ingame level editor.

but look on the bright side: they decided to not go beyond the counter with the characters avaliable. wich probably means they will remove clones.*

I prefer Brawl, but yaeh, they're very different.

Unlike Brawl, Melee's gameplay isn't shallow, slow, and floaty. It has more hit stun to allow for actual combos, and you couldn't dodge in the air forever. It also had some neat tricks for meta-gaming, something I wish some games would allow for today (not all exploits are neccessarily bad). Though, they both have character balance problems.

I actually prefer the floaty feel to brawl, and I wish I knew what you were talking about when you say shallow gameplay and air dodge forever because in all my time of playing I've never encountered that, only people that whine that the gamecube controller isn't the first option, and that just pisses me off. Don't slack off a game (not you) just because your first option isn't to use a controller from the LAST system.

Day 0, still nothing

all the photographs are finished to complete the horse-drawn carriage, the statue of liberty, raisins, a cow licking something, a sunrise, an aquarium, and that nautilus thing.

The floatiness allows for more aerial combat which I really appreciated.

I actually hate meta-gaming because it... takes away unpredictability in my opinion. These meta-gamers only want to exploit the same strategies and same combos over and over in order to win.

For example: I once went to a Brawl tournament and everyone who played as Falco did the same damn combos and the same damn thing as everyone else who played as Falco. No one wanted to come up with their own way to play as that character.

I hate the idea of in a fight there being a certain string of inputs to make you win. I'd rather it focus mostly on adapting to the situation. Taking advantage of uncertainty.

This is why I like Smash, you are not fighting on a flat ground one on one with an opponent who has a set of commands he needs to perform over and over and over again. You have changing terrains and items.

While people say that's a bad thing, I say it give the fighter more choices.

Think about it like this, you're in a fight, then out of nowhere a Bob-Omb appears. Now things have changed and you have a whole slew of new choices to be had. Good or Bad. You have to think, if you grab that Bomb-Omb you can use it to your advantage for a quick kill, however it may put you in serious risk! It could blow up on you or you could miss throwing it, or your opponent could catch it and use it on you! You have to think fast! Maybe you should just ignore it? But what if your opponent grabs it? Wait! It landed on a small platform so when it starts walking it will be stuck. Perhaps you'll just shoot it at a safe distance while your opponent tries to grab it?

Look at all those options and things to think about! And what's amazing is it might not happen the next fight! Every battle becomes a new experience, a new challenge of wits and reflexes.

Sorry. That's just how I see it. I can hear the rants coming now...

Day 0: Nice boat!

Koopaul, I totally agree with your opinion on this... except often times, items don't really present much choice at all, since they usually provide only straight-up benefits of some sort without much in the way of negatives (with bob-ombs being one of the notable exceptions).

Anyways, as much as I told myself I wouldn't follow the new Smash at all, I'm still finding this potentially interesting.

Well that's the biggest problem. Some items are flawed and unfair, while others can actually be used strategically. That's why when I play, I always keep weapons and explosives on, while turning everything else off.

Also some stages are horrible despite liking gimmicks. Things like Pokemon Stadium change up the environment while not punishing you. That's perfect!

Well..that wasn't anything close to Smash Bros. but uhh..

it looked pretty cool. I really like the art style.
