Tips for DS ripping?
#1
What's a good DS emulator to rip from that can remove layers?

I remember a while back, I tried ripping Mario and Luigi from Partners in time, which didn't work to well because it was either Desume or NO$GBA (I forget which) that didn't let me save. When I tried to, the game would close. When I tried the other emulator, the game would lag whenever I turned Animget on.

Any advice would be great!

As far as the lag goes, NO$GBA is probably the best to get around it. It doesn't have any of the layer disabling or the sprite viewer unfortunately.

Desmume however, has all the sprite viewer, map viewer, ability to remove layers, etc. The only problem is that it will probably lag more. (I'll test it out with the different versions of Desmume and see which version works faster)

Desmume is probably your best bet for DS ripping. There are other emulators that you could try out (iDeaS, DSemu, etc.) but I'm not sure how reliable those are. http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/nds/ Worth a shot though.

EDIT: Desmume 0.9.7 seems to have the best results. http://desmume.org/download/

I gotta say, that info really helped, but just a few questions:

- in the OAM viewer, is there a way to get the entire sprite if it is over lapped? When I go there, it pretty much shows exactly what is on the screen.
- is there a shortcut key command to remove layers?

Oh, and also, something interesting, I don't need to worry about using Animget. I can just slow the game down with the (-) key.

EDIT: Another thing, how do I disable that big cross when you use the touch screen? It gets in the way if I were to rip a touch screen based game.

Unfortunately Desmume only shows the sprites through the OAM viewer as they appear on the screen, so if they get overlapped or cut off, then OAM doesn't help with getting the rest. You may be able to use the Tile Viewer for that kind of stuff though. (Under "Tools")

Also, as far as I know there aren't any shortcut hotkeys for disabling the layers, but I'll search around a bit more.

I've never had the cross problem when using the touch screen, could you provide a screenshot?

As far as I know, you can view individual OAMs by using the arrows in the top-left. The OAM will then be displayed in the bottom-right. Not quite ideal, especially since the minimum scale of that display is 2x, but it's still possible.

You probably accidentally pressed the [,] key. (or View -> HUD -> Display Input)

Thanks, guys! I already figured out how to disable the cross thing shortly after making the post.
