[GAME][IN DEVELOPMENT][PLAYABLE] Extreme Combat Siblings
#1
Hello, Spriters' Resource! I've been looking around the forums for a little while, and noticed the game development section. I figured it would be a pretty cool idea if I were to head on over here and have you guys take a look at something I've been working on since August.

I bring you, Extreme Combat Siblings! This is a game that plays very similarly to the Super Smash Bros. series, but it has all original characters. I'll give a quick rundown of the game play...

It's full online play, going against other players. When you first start up the game, it'll have you enter a name tag that can be up to 7 characters in length. This will be used to identify you in-game, displaying what you say in chat, showing what stage you're playing in, and showing who you actually are in the fight. When you first start playing, you'll pick one character to start with, and earn Mithril as you fight (the game's currency). This can be used to change your name tag, purchase more characters, recover damage you've taken without having to wait for a recovery item, purchase extra lives, and in the future, open up an alternate soundtrack and even have the ability to select what color you want.

There's 12 character's currently in-game. Each character has their own moves and statistics to determine how they're played. The statistics are:

Power - Determines how much raw damage attacks have.
Defense - Reduces the amount of damage a character takes.
Acrobatics - Determines how high a character can jump.
Weight - Determines how fast a character falls and how well they resist being sent flying.
Reflex - Determines how well a character can use pick-up items, how well they can pull off a perfect guard, and how fast they can move in mid-air.
Speed - Determines how fast a character can attack and how fast they move on the ground.
Force - Determines how well a character can send another flying.

Each character also has a move known as a Sudden Strike. A sudden strike is a move akin to that of the Final Smash from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The manner a sudden strike is obtained is done through dealing/receiving damage while fighting. There is a gauge displayed below your character's portrait, you'll notice that it fills up as you fight. Be careful, the gauge also loses anything that's filled up slowly over time. Once full, your character will gain a super-saiyan-like aura similar to that of the Dragon Ball Z series, as well as the sound effects will play. All you need to do at this point, is hit the proper key to use it, and your character will unleash their sudden strike. Each character has a different sudden strike, most of which either inflict major pain on your opponents, or give you an increase in stats for a short period of time.

If you're interested in playing, head over to BYOND.com and register an account. The game's hub page can be found here. It's usually now hosted, but I can more than likely get something set up to have it playable at any given time.

If you're even more interested in the game, you're more than welcome to submit your own content! I will be accepting stages and characters.

If you're going to submit a stage, be sure that you include a PNG file of the background and any hazards that may be present within the stage. Here is something you can download to overlay on your stages to check and make sure that you set it up accordingly. Anything that you want to be solid terrain must be set up so the very top of the terrain is on the top of one of the lines of the 32x32 squares within the tile overlay. The image dimensions for the stages are the same as in the tile overlay, 672x672.

If you're going to submit a character, just make sure you give it the following animations:

Idle (can be animated)
Walking/running (your choice)
Jump
Fall
Mid-air jump
Hit
Sent flying
Normal attack (Can be a combination move if you wish)
Forward smash
Down smash
Up smash
Aerial attack
Special
Down Special
Up Special
Sudden Strike

Also be sure to include any graphics for projectile, special effects, etc. for your character, and give a detailed description of what each move exactly does. As for stats, just refer above to what they are. You're given 21 points to allot to the 7 stats, no less than 1 in any given stat, no more than 5. I also wish that these characters be of your own creation and not be stolen by anybody else. For a spriting style, I use one similar to that of Final Fantasy VI on the SNES, although making a lot of custom animations.

If you're interested in supplying music and sound files, make sure any music files are in .ogg or .wav file type, and make sure they have a decent compression quality. Sound files should be in .wav format, decent compression quality.

DISCLAIMER: There is still some content within the game that I do not own, such as sound effects, music, and some stage graphics. Most character graphics were originally FFVI characters but heavily modified. I'm working on getting everything as close to as original as possible, meaning any music, sound effects, and stages that are entirely original would be much appreciated.

I sure hope this long post doesn't scare any of you folks away. Just be sure to give positive criticism and tell me where I can improve on, or what you think should stay as is.

Thanks for your time guys, I look forward to hearing back from you!
