Sorry for jumping on the bandwagon here, but I'm kinda echoing what Helmo here said.

I can tell you right now calling homosexuality a "lifestyle" will get you plenty of flack.

There's a lot of gay people who don't necessarily live out the "gay lifestyle" - I mean, there's straight men who lived out the 'gay' lifestyle too for awhile some time back, with "metrosexuality" being a thing. That's fallen by the wayside since and gone the complete opposite with "lumbersexual" being a thing now. But you can be gay and change literally nothing about your life except for who you're in love with...because it's not a lifestyle. It's your sexual orientation. It's who you're intimately attracted to.

I kinda get what you're saying though; you wouldn't care whether your sister married a rubber duck or the Eiffel Tower, but overall you're not a fan of the choices that she sometimes makes. She also just happens to like people of the same sex. Don't worry - that's how a lot of people feel, including myself. Some of my gay friends make a lot of risky choices and it makes being that pal on the sidelines a little hard. :/

this kinda makes it sound like the common "homosexuality is a sin" hivemind some people hold. :/ If you put yourself in your sister's shoes for a second, and my brother told me "I know you're gay, which is fine, there's nothing wrong with that. You're still a great person and you'll always be my sister. I'll pray for you tonight if you want,"
I might interpret that as like...my brother, while tolerating my homosexuality, is simultaneously telling me that I shouldn't love who I want to as it goes against his beliefs, and is trying to 'pray' the gay out of me, which...is kind of a cold standpoint honestly. :/

I mean, if your gay friends are suddenly now shooting up heroin because of the lifestyle change they made, YES that's dangerous and I'd be praying around the clock! But that's also not a lifestyle change tied into their sexual orientation: that's a faulty choice they made by choosing to mingle with the wrong people who they might've been introduced to by their significant other. But a heterosexual guy can hook up with the wrong crowd if their girlfriend's a closet junkie, too, so...

But I know you've got good intentions: You don't want your gay friends to make dangerous choices, and you're willing to pray for them that they make safe choices that don't threaten their lives or well-being.

It also seems like kind of a slippery slope by assuming "all gay people lead dangerous lives" because people will interpret this as you exercising binary thinking: that you believe that people are either GAY, WILD AND PROMISCUOUS (the stereotype) or STRAIGHT, CIVIL AND RESERVED (you). When in reality, it's not like that. There are incredibly GAY, CIVIL AND RESERVED people too...and as a matter of fact, the broad majority of them are. There are gay men who don't wear pompadours nor talk flamboyantly (and who would be otherwise doomed to a career of hairdressing)

which...I'll argue also is kind of a problem now too, but that's a discussion for another time lol (it's really not huge: it's just the caveats of social media, including internet forums I guess)
