So what is Monster MMORPG ?

Monster MMORPG is a free to play, browser based, full scale MMORPG game with development driven by our player base. Currently, the game is being developed by Furkan Gözükara (M.Sc.) with the help of volunteer players and artists. Check the credits for more information.

The game started as a free online Pokemon MMORPG but was taken down for a period of time and converted into Monster MMORPG Version 1. We kept the Pokemon style game play, but are no longer infringing on Nintendo's copyright. While Nintendo drags its feet on making an online Pokemon MMORPG, we continue to add content and build onto the base of our game. We have since moved onto Version 2, with a cleaner interface, NPC challenges, and many more features on the way! The game is continually improving.

If you are familiar with Pokemon style games, you will have no problem getting started in Monster MMORPG.

We currently have:
  • More than 1,200 Monsters
  • 18 Unique types
  • 3,000 Different attack moves
  • Over 200 Monster abilities
  • 100 Monster natures
  • A Unique Values (UV) system (similar to IV values in Pokemon)
  • Training Points (TP) system (similar to EV values in Pokemon)
  • NPC Trainers to battle
  • 19 Arenas, each with a challenging opponent inside
  • PvP battles
Each Monster has a unique ability pool and upon capture, they get 3 random abilities from this abilities pool. With the addition of UV, TP, Nature and Abilities no two Monsters are exactly the same.

Monster MMORPG is also one of the few browser-based MMORPG games that fully supports live PvP battles. We've thoroughly tested the mechanics out, so you and your friends can battle online without worrying about 'sleep hax' or other insane exploits seen often in Pokemon-esque games.

On the main game page, you'll notice we have a large chat box to keep in touch with the other players. (Not to mention our Private Messaging system!) Our chat supports 32 different country channels.

Quick Gameplay Hints
  • Keep pressing w,a,s,d or arrow keys or the navigation arrows at the game screen for moving fluently
  • You can enter Monster Center (It has Monster Center signboard) for healing and setup your team, and Monster Market(It has Shop signboard) for items and buy, sell, trade monsters
  • From navigation menus at control panel you can set your avatar, overworld sprite and change your starter monster
  • While battling, lower your opponent HP and throw monster box to catch it

Moved to Games Development since that's the place where people post their games, whether in development or finished (I never understood why the other thread was moved away in the first place). I'd rather have people advertising their games here instead of Gaming Discussion.

The light, cheery graphics of Pokemon don't mesh well with the much more menacing monster art.

Now I don't know the budget for the game, but I would strongly recommend updating the overworld graphics before adding too many more monsters.


What would really look nice would be some kind of painted-looking backgrounds and some pre-renders for the humans (it would also be cheaper to pay for a human model once and then have the community/whoever makes a bulk of the other art create skins for it)

thanks but due to the nature of game community we have both Smile
so everyone happy ^^

Also budget is very limited right now. most of the monsters coming from volunteer artists or the artists who gave permission to use

thats not how aesthetics work,
what is being said is the 2 styles don't work well together, you can enjoy one or the other but mixing them together ruins them both (I like fish and peanut-butter, but peanut-butter fish I'm pretty sure would make me puke)

I think the nature of the monsters pulls more towards Final Fantasy than it does pokemon, the environments reflecting this would create a much better image for your game than leaving it as is (where it may be seen as unorganised and messy)

I understand this is a big change to consider, but I think you consider it regardless, not straight away of course but building a tileset up over time would be good, when the tileset is ready a simple texture swap via an update would make the change far less hassle than it needs to be.

I imagine given the quality of the project so far and the amount of work put into it you'd like this to lean towards a professional work, if so these changes you should start planning, just swapping out from pokemon you've made your first big leap, more leaps like it will come to define it as a unique piece of mastery in its own right.

EDIT: taking a look around your site and I decided to look at the monster dex... noticed 25 pages and 50 on the first page... I was a bit confused and decided to skip to the last page to see just how many monsters you have going,

... 1231 WOW! where on earth did you find so many contributors!? I understand a good community could help out but... 1231... thats insane! I can't help but say congratulations on this, I'd consider 150 an achievement in and of itself...

yes we have 1200+ Smile i am planning to have simply countless monsters though Big Grin

Version 2.0.2 got released here the changelogs

* Exp & Gold event for a day increased to 200%

* All monsters on maps re-assigned

* All NPCs and their monsters re-assigned

* NPC monsters power boost removed - so they are equal with player monsters
*** This rule not applies at zone 19 mixed. Zone 19 mixed npc monsters have zenith monsters stat boots

* NPC reward money and exp slightly reduced

* Item usage at NPC & PVP battles removed

* These items removed and their money refunded: Accuracy Drug, Evasion Drug, Perfect Revive, Ultimate Revive from all players. You can buy again and use at wild monster battles

* All badges are removed for everyone. Sorry but had to take this action because of some battle drugs abusement for defeating arena leaders

* Some minor bug fixes

* Accuracy & Evasion stat changes via stages changed to
*** 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 120, 140, 160, 180, 200
*** For example +0 = 100% , -2 = 80% , +3 = 140%

* All currently going on battles removed

* All NPC battle history deleted so you can battle once again today

* Rankings updated

Going to have to agree that the obvious Pokémon roots don't bode well against the monster artwork.
I'd suggest you try and develop your own artistic style too, so you don't just look like a poor man's Pokémon.

Your game has potential that I feel this is preventing you from expressing.
