Yeah, personally I don't mind him either. No doubt I can see why people may not like him as a character, and these complaints are quite valid--I just think I can't actually hate video game characters. Too many real-life issues piss me off to where even annoying characters are just sorta "eh" in comparison maybe.

He does totally have a gigantic marijuana leaf growing out of his forehead though.

What's bad about silver is that he's not just another hedgehog with a lazy design. Its that he's a hedgehog with psychic powers from a dystopian future and has the name "Silver"

The whole thing just SCREAMS fanfiction character. It like if I made an emotionally distraught girl with fire powers from another dimension and... oh... wait...

If you ask me Big the Cat was the last pure Sonic character to be made. He was a colorful cartoony animal, with an original design, simple backstory, no Mary Sue powers, and no emoness.

It's either Sonic, Knuckles, Eggman, Gamma, Metal Sonic, Mighty the Armadillo, Nack or Jet, it seems.

Actually, I don't mind Silver being psychic. I think it's his one redeeming factor. Each Sonic character had a unique superpower in the beginning, and that aspect kind of seriously began to dwindle with the modern games. Sonic was fast, Tails could fly, Knuckles could climb and break shit. Silver is psychic.

However, Silver's personality is almost non-existent, and his overdone Final Fantasy look is just kind of... shit. You can tell that Sega was giving Silver so much junk and so many spines solely to make up for the fact that their game lacked "substance."

No, being psychic or magic or having glowy mystical powers are more common among Mary Sue type characters. It makes them seem more mystical than say having super strength, speed or flight.

Why? Because its more otherworldly. People actually CAN be strong, people CAN be fast. These are just enhanced real world abilities. But being able to shoot fire or rainbows or sparkle power! That's something different. Its unique and "special"

Not saying that they did use the abilities the right way, but inherently hating anybody with psychic abilities is kind of incredibly vain. Especially when, in universe, other mystical abilities, artifacts, and locations have already been demonstrated (Tikal, Chaos, Shadow, Chaos Emeralds, a magic floating island, etc.)

When everybody's a Mary Sue (or Gary Stu) nobody's a Mary Sue (or Gary Stu.)

Who could also turn Super Saiyan. I don't really think Silver power is that far from other stuff the series has shown us. Like Eggman and Tails building machines out of thin air, or Shadow and Sonic pretty much being able to stop time. Also, Amy herself has had psychic power since her first appearance on Sonic CD, but it's based around clayvoirance rather than offensive stuff.

On the matter of Silver himself, I find him to be alright, he's the "playful" rival type, but I don't really know much about him, I guess.

A lot of the examples of supernatural things being given are directly related to the chaos emeralds, or at least were more mystical and subdued. They had a place in the world. Silver's powers? Pretty random and blatant by comparison.

My all-time favorite? Anybody but Sonic. Even in Sonic 2 I'd pick Tails instead of him, yet the silly fox couldn't fly until Sonic 3! =P But if I had to nail one favorite down, it'd have to be...well darn it I don't know any more, but it's definitely not Blaze. >_> (That cat can go die in a fire for all I care, oh wait...*'06 cough*)

This made me laugh! You have to admit, though, Blaze is pretty okay in design, although the lack of visibly noticeable breasts does get her mistaken for a dude a lot, despite having high heels and eyelashes. xD (Being dead serious about that!)

Although there was a lot more they could have done with her character in Sonic Rush. At first she was like all cold and sour with a hint of the attitude Sonic used to have, then threw all of that out the window near the end. A bit too much character development in one sitting if you ask me.

Valid argument. I can't think of anything (in Sega Universe prior to the events of Sonic 06) that would counter your argument, so I guess you're right in that Silver's abilities had no natural reason of being.

Well, she uses tarot cards to predict her encounter with Sonic on Little Planet, in Sonic CD. She also uses this in Sonic Chronicles as an attack (which is incredibly canon) and it's mentioned in Sonic Battle. Also in Sonic 06 (lol) she can turn invisible.
