Well, you could have down-b as a switch move (not every FE character needs a counter move...). Then, to encourage occasional switching, maybe their weapons could wear down with use, eventually dealing less damage.

I do agree, my idea was quite gimmicky. But I wanted to differentiate the heroes from Pokemon Trainer...but I suppose that's hard to do.

The only thing keeping Eliwood, Hector, and Lyn from being the Fire Emblem Pokemon Trainer is the different final smashes. Is that really enough?

Character enters a defensive pose, switches to another character. If player is hit during first few frames, the character will immediately switch out to another one and that switched character will automatically counter attack

it keeps the Fire Emblem counter theme and still allows switching

I didn't comment on it, but yeah Tyvon's switching idea is great.

So in general, we drop Roy for the Heroes, or is this our fourth FE character?
