To compliment this one, when people say the internet is absolutely not a serious place, and even go further by saying there are no consequences.
The internet is a simply digital extension of our own world. It has knowledge, it has organizations, it has crimes, it has adult video stores, it has toy shops, and it can even be a home to some. The only real difference is that it is easier to be anonymous and re-invent yourself completely here, if you do it right.
To imply or believe that there's nothing serious or real about it is just plain arrogant/stupid.
You do/say stupid or hurtful things, you may have to pay some retribution for those actions or words.
You also can make mistakes, which can come with consequences. (Even if you put everything you got into not doing that, I should know...)
