It looks pretty good and you're not the only one with a bad hand, there seems to be quite a fair bit of blank space that needs to be cropped. As for a Kawaks alternative for MAME, well have you tried FinalBurnAlpha? I couldn't get it to work but there is a shotfactory very similar to Kawaks. Sadly though, many arcade games have to do the capturing and editing way and getting rid of the background can be tricky. If you want to go to the tile ripping way, press F4 during in game to bring up the tile viewer. There are some versions of MAME (unofficial) that can extract the tiles or make it easier to do.
According to MAME, the name is called Guardians with Denjin Makai 2 as an alternative name or at least Guardians is the considered overseas name (it seems to be only released in Japan) and two the character name is called Zeldia, not Zelda. It's okay though, it's easy to make that mistake and it is understandable.
