One of my least favorite topics... - DarkGrievous7145 - 09-06-2015

So, my mom and i did shopping today...

Well, during the several hours of time my dad had on the computer to do stupid/dangerous shit...

This pc is running slower than ever

The AV is eating all the CPU

Internet connectivity is null and void...

I had to re-start it...
How tempting it is to call "dear old daddy" 's bluff...
emails my god damn ass! A select few individuals are on emails all day. Even I, while logged-in all day, am not checking them every second. Nope... I game, chat, mess with hacking/programming.
paying bills... FOR FIVE FUCKING HOURS?!
oh, turbotax, which makes taxes so easy, is a pain in the ass
and ofc... "say, why do you need to hide the screen so fast?"

I hope I can get my "new" laptop set-up and running FAST... My mom's pc I'm  officially declaring to be at defcon-1.

What lurks inside I do not know exactly, as nothing is finding anything, but i just KNOW virus has rendered the thing near inoperable, and is slowly killing it.

Only good thing is my mom and i got a really good router to replace the crappy linksys wr1t0n that refuses to connect after our isp had us trade the modem in. (i tried resets, it's not working...and research revealed it can be considered a defective model) Anyways, that should enable more than one pc to be connected to the internet.

But, yeah...I'm likely to go MIA for a bit...
Even if i get set-up with the laptop... it'll be a while before I post anything much more. At best, I may lurk...

Sorry to report this...
And sorry if i seem in an irritable mood...
bad enough keeping my cool explaining the tech crap I know to my mom...
But CONSTANTLY having to repair the damage my father can do because of his complete disregard for internet safety protocol... That grinds my gears like no other... My blood is boiling right now... I wanna kill him!

Why must I bear the full load of every damn thing that goes wrong here?
Cry Angry
I'm sick of it.
I want to talk with my friends.
I want to play games.
I want to make games.
I want to learn various things.
And between scheduling conflicts and having to play IT tech of the household, I CANNOT DO IT...DAMMIT!

IDK what I'll do if my mom loses this computer...
I think if it does happen I'm just gonna let-loose on my father how much i really did know... Tired of pretending to get along. Chew his ass out nice and good. "Well, now that the pc is dead, give-up the charades. I know what you did, when you did it. I know what sites you were on. Why do you even bother hiding it? I hope you feel good, hope you enjoyed it. You proud you've ruined another computer, forever destroyed another several gigabytes of unreplaceable files? That you put the entire family at risk in a whole variety of ways?"

anyways, bye for now...
hope to return soon...

wow, that's not a rant at all
but ummmm, I'm the IT tech of two businesses and a household and I Love This Shit,
so unless you've got ransomware locking your drive down, here's Some Lil Pointers

- they do make boot-time anti-virus scanners. if you're feeling especially daring, grab your Linux distro live media (I know you have one) and boot into the disc. Bumble around the Internet until you find like Kaspersky's boot-time antivirus live-CD/USB image and copy that to your media of choice (it's usually included on the liveCD) - or optionally take this time to grab your files off the HDD (hint: viruses go for system files, not your resume and drawings)

- boot into safe mode once that's done, Run All The Things (Malwarebytes, HijackThis, etc. etc.) and weed out all the shit you need to.
- run ComboFix to fix all those wrecked parts of your OS (this is kind of a last-resort, but you sound like you're...there)

- reboot and fix up anything else that might've happened

- keep your calm while talking to your father about computery things. you might wanna suggest local computer-literacy classes at your library or community college

- please don't kill your dad
- pretty please
- he's an OK guy

- oh yeah if you didn't already back up EVERYONE's files and reinstall Windows (but don't forget to log all your activation keys for like, your OS, your premium programs, etc. etc.)
it sounds like you've got a bunch of Garbage going on in your registry and maybe you wanna address that by just NUKIN' EM

Oh... uhm... bummer to hear about all that.

Hope things get better, and thank you for your interest and help in my SU thread!

i have no desire to be a sysadmin, so...

this computer has enough problems...
it's not even a pure windows xp install, it has some company crap permanently integrated...

i'm done...
as for malwarebytes, it's good...but uses an insane amount of resources.
in present condition, this pc WOULD crash if i started it...

this thing barely reboots at a reasonable speed...
it freezes during THAT, even...

nope... he's computer literate... enough. he's just reckless... and i don't WANT him to know every damn thing... that's recipe for other disasters...

the threat of the law, which in this case, promotes injustice... is why i won't
meh...
haha...not really.... even if you did know him personally, that which i doubt, that matters not... the mask comes-off at home... i'm not going to sugar-coat this... he's selfish, defeatist, lazy, etc...

yep...

so do i...
gonna try setting up that router, though already been delayed... my mom came-out after checking emails and facebook just to tell him "oh, you have some emails that need to be checked" ... in her position, i'd leave him on his own. something gets missed, oh well...
assuming that works, need to fully set-up that laptop my friend gave me... i feel that's gonna be rough... windows vista, and the thing gets hot as fuck! so, lotsa GUI settings to change for conserving resources, and updates to add, or crashes to try and fix... besides having to disable a ton of "security" features...if that wasn't done by previous owners

and yeah, you're welcome...
i was considering to request a rip of it, then i saw your thread while waiting to be picked-up to watch some movies
any luck with my last pieces of advice/information?

even though things are bad for you, ellipsis are there to be used, not abused.

hope you can sort out things but next time calm down before posting

nah, i tend to just get carried away with those regardless
now, before i reply to the second part of your post

"CALM DOWN? NOW, WHY WOULD I DO THAT? I'LL BE CALM WHENEVER I WANT!"
lol...
depends on the subject, really.
i normally am: calm/neutral.
thanks to life events i can be, depressive, bounce off the walls insanely excited/wild/happy, at the flip of a dime.
i used to always be bouncy off the walls happy.

RE: One of my least favorite topics... - Gors - 09-08-2015

yeah i'm not telling you to be extremely happy either, just... eh idk, chill down, getting this worked up certainly will not help your situation. Keeping your calm is essential, in all cases

either way I digress, I am rooting for you and your pc's well-being.

I think I've found your problem. You can't even install XP on a modern computer expecting it to...work. I'm just assuming the processor doesn't even have an "i" in it and probably takes up to 4GB max.
Quite frankly, with specs that low, trying to run modern things can be kinda...torture, given everything amps their specs up with each new OS dispatch.

Upgrading to a new computer with Windows 10, even seems like a good idea - especially that you can get high-spec gaming desktops for like $700 nowadays from a brick-and-mortar retailer. Odds are you're gonna get your new machine and you're gonna love the everloving hell out of it once you do

(also, the idea is to start up malwarebytes and then just walk away and do...things that aren't "stare at the monitor and wait for malwarebytes to finish" lol)

this...just sounds like your dad's savvy but just really gullible when it comes to those "Is this you? [links to self-executing virus package]"
It's not about getting "smarter", it's about browsing safe. Even a retired IBMer can get sucked into those scams - it's...crazy.

you may want to open that thing up and blow the whole thing down with compressed air/reverse setting on a vacuum. a lot of dust'll cause the fans/heatsink to clog and uh

just give it a good clean. lol

Also sorry if I'm coming off as kinda condescending - I work as an IT person with the intent to someday be a sysadmin, soooo I might come off as a little arrogant (and sometimes I forget that not everyone has the same technical knowledge as I do lol)

simply don't have the money for any upgrading of that nature...

For a retired IBMer to do that would indicate they got careless and sloppy. Scams only work because people foolishly let their guard down. Simplest solution is to trust no one.

Windows XP is actually a great OS, and microsoft has yet to meet or exceed what made it good since.
Vista started the trip downwards...
8 was a disaster, taking everything that made Vista crap and amplifying it, and hopping right on the "mobile devices are superior" bandwagon
I've heard great and not so great things about 10.

Not ABOUT to pop a laptop open...

I know enough to realize how many things are backwards with computing... and how much of what is said is to be regarded strictly as propaganda. Your dream job would be easier and more desirable if the world took heed of what people like me have to say or offer. In fact, anyone with interest in computers and the likes would benefit...

RE: One of my least favorite topics... - DarkGrievous7145 - 09-09-2015

oh, due to delays and me falling asleep from exhaustion the other day, i have to wait a bit before setting the new router up. Namely because the modem must be shut-down, which means the phone getting disconnected for a bit. Not exatctly great while my nieces are over, which is like four days a week, iirc...

Computer is running alright for now, so I will just work on some of my rips and other stuff while waiting...
Still quite concerned something is wrong, though...

oh well..

RE: One of my least favorite topics... - DarkGrievous7145 - 10-24-2015

alright...

In case anyone has been wondering why I've been so immensely inactive...

Firstly, until recently, I've had my motivation to do nearly ANYTHING almost entirely drained for some unknown reason

Secondly, I've pulled myself into a Fantasy MMORPG
This is not solely for playing it, though...
Ever since my first time playing it, which was approximately 2-3, maybe 4 years ago ...I've wanted to rip it.
I have been bulk-archiving, and later dumping, hundreds of files at a time.

Tonight was especially exciting, I am close to clearing another region!
I will not list specifics about this game, I don't want the developers, if there's any chance of this happening at all, finding this out and either banning me or putting any form of security over their assets. (just because some would be concerned about this, for example...crystal saga's devs clearly don't want people grabbing their graphics)
IDK when I'll post these rips, right now I'm just slowly dumping as much of the assets files as I can, so far the dump is up to 14 MBs! There's a very high chance that the actual ripping phase will become a community project here.

Anyways, despite my motivation being back, I'm taking a slight break from here to play an MMO and simultaneously prepare a rip for it. This eats a lot of time and energy, though. And while not draining me of This resource, it can easily consume an entire day's worth of my motivation to work on ANY project.

As for the router issue:
STILL NOT SOLVED...
I so far still can't get the right kind of day or prior notification of such a day to actually get that done.
(Right kind of day is no kids and no random errands, so far I either am not getting them, or am made aware of this too late, or some other thing... )

RE: One of my least favorite topics... - DarkGrievous7145 - 11-26-2015

I'm Back

Need to rest, though...

Haven't much else to say.
Only I feel kinda distrusted and hated here, now.

RE: One of my least favorite topics... - eureka - 11-26-2015

Riiiiggthhhtttt, so, heres the thing, Dark Grevious dude.
Ventings all good. We all need to it, so thats why we have the Unhappy thread.
Yknow, to vent.
But there is a line between "venting" and literally coming off as a psychopath because your life sucks and you want all this revenge for an issue that may or may not be a thing in later years.
I dont think anyone hates you, just that the way you vented about quite a few things put people...on edge. Not like you can blame them, people arent mind readers, and they dont know what youre capable of.
All i have to say to you, theres probably so many typos in this posts but im on ipad and fairly tired, so oh well. Hopefully you get my point.

RE: One of my least favorite topics... - DarkGrievous7145 - 11-27-2015

I have fairly recently stated in the Unhappy thread I'm done discussing this matter. But...oh, may as well here, also.

I can't expect anyone to understand exactly how much mental an emotional stress/trauma, and broken relationships I have because of school in particular. Only way maybe I could ever get anyone to understand that is by posting my whole life story. I briefly considered that option, but if/when I do, it won't be here.

Desire for revenge and even openly admitting it proves nothing. By definition it is circumstantial evidence, and means nothing other than an individual is extremely angry at another party and wants them to have to pay for what they've done. Even the possession of a weapon coupled with that mindset, or vocation of it, doesn't prove someone is a psychopath. The ones who say nothing about it, or are very specific are more of a concern. Classifying someone as a psychopath because they're angry and desire revenge is nothing short of a witch-hunt. It's also a good excuse for governments to take our rights because "Oh, this guy over here said he hates his neighbor...also, he has a gun" just to name an example. Let's also say someone goes and accuses him of "making a threat" , or "racism" , or goes to arrest him. By that point, they're making a monster out of an ordinary guy, because if they think he's not going to defend himself at that point, they must be really high.

This line of which is spoken has been drawn thanks to: 9/11, Patriot Act, and Political Correctness. And ofc, some human stupidity. If people continue to rely so heavily on it, there will be a point where we no longer have any freedoms. Already can't make empty threats or even suggest revenge because "oh, well you're a terrorist!" Next will be you can't say you hate someone (PC already is ensuring this) , then you can't even say you mildly dislike them, and eventually... the government will tell you what you can say, or do, what your life will be, who you will be...and they will take you out if you disobey. What I've mentioned, and is the subject of this debate this is only on the "violence" and "racism" spectrum. You want an example of an extremely screwed-up line, what counts as "Sexual harassment" My mom would actually back me on that one. She was the one who made me aware of it!

The only real reason anything I would say is today counted as a threat or makes me sound like some kind of psycho is because society is trying to sterilize itself, has detached from this wonderful piece of wisdom called "common sense" , and the government needs an excuse for us to not have any rights, and an easy way to pass completely unnecessary and/or flawed legislation.

By your definition of a 'psychopath', me, my friends, my family, probably many of my former teachers, nearly all of humanity, likely including yourself, is classified as one. You want some real sickos, there are a few of my family's enemies that might interest you. Two come to mind, both are/were open to violent confrontations or had/have thugs/friends who would do that dirty work for them. We feared them. One is dead as of last year, and this is the only reason we now can have contact with some of my cousins and their families. We have yet to see the fullest extent of damage the merciless and unprovoked beatings he gave them has caused. And before you suggest calling the cops or other authorities... had my mother done that, we probably all would be dead.

My family has KNOWN some really bad people... I don't need reminding or explanations of what classifies someone as psychotic. But the definition provided is a witch-hunter's definition of a psycho, and not necessarily by even a long-shot, the accurate one.

That should be everything...
I'm off to bed.
Another long day tomorrow, and I've been up WAAAAAAAY later already than I should've

I do not want this topic brought-up in this thread again, that's not even what I created it for.
