BB97's Art thread - ~Axis~ - 02-17-2015

I want to improve my art skills beyond just doodles of different characters so I think my own thread is necessary. Here are some things I've been working on. These will most likely be pen/pencil sketches.

Flower vase:

Fruit basket:

(this is my first time drawing like this! haha!)

I need your help. If it weren't for you guys giving me pointers while I was a noob, I would have never improved to this level. I want to be the best I can be. Give me some c+c please! Thank you.

Try putting less pressure on your pen/pencil. If you hold it higher up and grip it not as tighly, you'll gain more control over your lines and their weight, because you'll be able to modulate it more easily.
Drawing bigger will allow you to make bigger gestures, and more expressive lines. Ideally drawing with your shoulder is what you're aiming for, it'll give you more stability than your wrist!

It's a small doodle but I tried to follow your advice as much as possible. I had a Nivea container on the counter this morning so I drew that. Sorry for the horrid image quality. Cry

you know i always found drawing simple objects isn't the best exercise for drawing
i think you should try full-on rooms, that starts to work with your mental 3D perception quite a bit (try not to worry too much about shading at first, try and get perspective and placement down)

(btw i noticed in the doodle thread you recently drew stuff with cross-hatching and fat outlines; was that meant to imitate my stuff ? cause if so im flattered)

Ahaha... well... I was looking at your stuff and I liked how everything looked, so I studied your style and tried to mimic it for practice. Cute

Thanks for the advice. I'll try to work on that.

The arm of the couch that is closer to us is a bit lower than the other one, but aside from that, great job!

Some spoiled brat broke that arm... Tongue

Thanks for pointing that out! I never noticed it. Surprise

umm 2 things
first look at how the lamp sits on the floor, there's work that can be done there (id suggest like drawing an actual circle to know the surface of contact, then build upon it)

and second the bottom horizontal line of your painting doesn't make sense with the perspective, it should be exactly horizontal

umm, how bout this? I didnt have a ruler so the lines are wonky.
