The iconic "Duck Hunt" duck before Smash bros Wii U used the Green and Black palette. Or at least, that's the one I always saw in media surrounding the game.

Anyway, I really like your character choices. Takamaru, Ninten, Mike Jones, Mach Rider... good shit.

RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - Kyleglor - 02-11-2015

With Ganon the closer arm could be curved slightly more and for the back one i think the first one looks better and i think the legs look off

@koh i think it could come down to fighters stance same for regular smash

also cant wait for some viruses

RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - recme - 02-11-2015

instead of making a cluttered sentence, ill list off points on things that looks weird:
  • not everybody has to be angry. peach, pit, mario and luigi should have a default face like their games.
  • peach looks a little off. its mainly the head thats the problem. i found reference if you need it: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/95/Peach_Mario_2.jpg
  • little macs hair wasnt all that spiky back in the original punch out
  • nana and popo look like gremlins at this point. try making smaller faces, sorta like kirby's face
  • link is missing his neck. its also hard to tell if this is zelda II link or zelda I link.
also, i made an edit of meta knight for shits and giggles. its based off the kirbys adventure sprite.

@recme, The Link from Z1 and Z2 are the same guy. ^^ Also, I think brightening the side of Metaknight's mask really adds depth to it, and makes it look more detailed without adding colors. Smile

Oh man, I had no idea you were on this forum. I've liked a lot of your Mother based spritework for a while and became a fan of it when you did that really sweet 16-bit Kracken, the coloring on it blew my brain into next week.

Speaking of coloring, you seem to have a good nack for making the best of a restricted palette line, everything is clear and distinguishable.

RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - DragonDePlatino - 02-13-2015

Well, folks...I think I can call this just about finished.

[Image: super_smash_bros__duel_by_dragondeplatino-d8hv35e.png]

We've got a nice mix of popular characters and obscure ones. I've worked on this project for a week or two, and polished all of the designs to a mirror shine. Five rows is enough for now, until I feel like revisiting this project.

Whelp, time to go submit this to deviantART where it'll rot in my gallery for the rest of time! But first...

(02-11-2015, 12:39 AM)Koh Wrote: Something I'm curious about...how come some of the characters are at a quarter angle, while others are at a perfect profile angle?

That's mostly for the sake of variety. Some characters are facing perfectly right, others have a 3/4 view. Some have more of a confident fighting pose, others have a bit of a dopey look to them. This project was an experiment in the diversification of character designs.

Hey, thanks a lot! I know you're a fan of MOTHER so this comes as no surprise to me. Tongue

Done and done. Oh, and have some viruses! Big Grin

Thank you so much for your feedback! All of your points were very strong, and made some tweaks according to all of them. Oh, and that's an awfully nice sprite-based Meta Knight you have there...Mind if I steal it? Heh heh.

Here he is, people! The guy who inspired me to start this project with this image. You gotta reupload and show us all of those old images sometime, man! The few that weren't destroyed by Imageshack were pretty tight!

RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - Virt - 02-13-2015

Dedede's beak/bill shape is kinda weird. Looks like big fat lips instead of his usual beak shape.

RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - DragonDePlatino - 02-13-2015

/le sigh

I really wanted to call this finished, but if you say so.

[Image: king_dededede_nes_by_dragondeplatino-d8hv8yi.png]

That better?

RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - Kyleglor - 02-13-2015

All and all they look great for me, personally i perferred the old ice climbers and the angry faces looked great to me except for peaches the new one is better
a couple of things though its hard to diferenciate between peaches ear and hair and king dededes head could be moved one pixel to the left and the eyes could meet the bill more

I still feel like the Mario and Luigi would make an awesome brawler maybe like a double dragon type game that lead up to Bowser or DK. Also i do love those viruses and i know its a little late but i just realized nobody said Donkey Kong Jr. (Which would make a great sub boss in that brawler)

Anyway great job on the sprites!

RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - Joxon - 02-13-2015

I hate to rain on your parade, but you've got a couple things that may need fixing.

Dedede's beak still looks like lips. Maybe add a shine?

Nana looks like she's licking her lips.

Dr. Mario's expression looks blank. I think many eyebrows could work?

Macs hair was spiked, but only in the front.

RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - Shade - 02-13-2015

My tip for Dedede, widen the middle, shrink the sides. Doing so will make it look more like a beak (or whatever it is) and less like lips.

Just shrinking the sides exclusively could work as well.

RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - recme - 02-13-2015

i made some edits to some of the sprites. however, i didnt fix all the problems, such as:

  • dedede's beak
  • pits body
  • samus's stance
  • ganon's stance
  • excitebike dudes no-neck situation
  • something about the devilguys body

RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - DragonDePlatino - 02-14-2015

OTL Well...I guess we're not quite there yet. I took everyone's advice and made a few changes pretty much everywhere. A little bit better posing for some guys, some changed eyes, etc. Some sprites I took straight from recme (Mike Jones and Little Mac) but others haven't changed at all. Sorry, recme, but even though they look a little weird, that's just how Kirby looked back then. Ice Climbers and Ninten, too.

RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Super Smash Bros. Duel - DragonDePlatino - 02-19-2015

Whew! I'm absolutely exhausted. I just spent the past 3 hours organizing all of the character sprites from my Mother: 25th Anniversary Edition ROM Hack. I wasn't actually drawing, mind you, but just sifting through the sheer volume of NPC sprites the game has. This should be just about everything, though.

[Image: mother_25th_anniversary_edition_characte...8im8kl.png]

I'll be submitting this pretty soon once I get a few other things out of the way. Oh, and as for the Super Smash Bros. Duel project, that's been finished and submitted here to my deviantART gallery. It didn't change much except for the addition of Urban Champion to round out the roster to 32 characters.

EDIT:

Uuuuuugh the forums are glitching up and my image won't display. I've redone it several times and nothing changes. Here is an alternate link.

RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - DragonDePlatino - 02-20-2015

After seeing the disfigured blobs Terraria: Otherworld attempted to pass off as humans, I decided to give my own Terraria graphics a shot.

[Image: terraria_2_sprites_by_dragondeplatino-d8iumwm.gif]

Not too shabby for 4 hours of work, eh? A larger project may come of this, but for now these are just some doodles. It's been a while since I've animated, so I'd appreciate some input on my jogging animation.
