I can't wrap my head around a tracker interface to be honest, especially Famitracker's. I have and always will be accustomed to a piano roll Shy

I polished my song (sped it up, added percussion, generally improved it) and declared it finished. I also gave it a title: Start Groovin'.

(If it's a horrible name feel free to give me tips on naming my songs.)

a good way to get better at music making is to cover music you already know. Trying to mimic others will teach you about melody structure, chords and instrumentation.

I already tried copying some instruments from a Genesis track but I'm having trouble getting the sounds I want. I'll try making a cover of something tomorrow, at least melody-wise.

Tried to do a cover of Melee's Final Destination. Overdone, sure, but still fun to do.

Still a WIP. I'm missing the other half of it.

C+C and feedback would be very well appreciated.

I can't give tips on such thing, only suggestions. And no one knows about your song better than you, so just name if without any fear of looking bad.

@SchAlternate:

Pay attention to the notes, there are a bunch of wrong ones. If you are using Famitracker, use the G00 effect: it is a fine note delay. When you want to put the note 'between two lines', use the slight delay to properly place them evenly.

I think you just saved my life.

I may be missing something, but it's pretty much finished by now.

Here is one I made recently. It is more of a beat than an actual song:

This one is more akin to VG music. Although, it was actually a collab between a guy I know called foxsin. I basically layed out the skeleton; he helped me put it together. My original plan was to make it a battle theme, but I don't think I really succeeded in capturing that mood. Don't know. I'll drop some more later, but for now, let me know what you think.

Hmmm...I gave "Encounter with a Dark Entity" a listen and it's pretty good! And I think it'd fit with a battle pretty well! I'm getting some vibes of a storyline battle or something you're doomed to loose...like a premature encounter with the final boss. My only gripes would be that the base guitar is a bit weak. It could use 2 more parts to it or be an octave lower. Oh, and you should probably portmanteau the vocals instead of cutting them off for every note to make them sound more natural.

Hmm...and what would it sound like with an additional 15 BPM and some trumpets? That might make it fast-paced enough for a normal boss theme.

Thanks man. I'm still a noob when it comes to battle themes.... Maybe I'll figure it all out eventually.

Here is something I made a few hours ago actually. I was kind of going for a calm track:

I didn't make it loop, but if it ever were used it would loop back to the first section.

I made this one after playing around with a Japanese scale I learned. I wanted to capture a very ominous sort of vibe. Soundcloud this time:

I've started working on music for the game that I'm working on:

It's kinda rough in some areas, but I figured that getting some practice in will help me get used to the program and maybe find some more creative ways to make music, because the way I make music is rather simple now.

Before you're like "wow, props to you, that's a complex song!"

please

just listen to it

(yes, I made this as a joke out of boredom, although it did start out as a serious attempt but then I said "screw it" and added robots)

I decided to give Guru-Guru's Song (aka Windmill Song) from OoT/MM a shot:

Still in progress, I plan to improve it and even add a little extension of my own. I would appreciate feedback though, I feel like I could improve on what I already have.
