Not all of them would have to, as KAR only had a handful of Achievements with unlockables but at least even the non-prize ones built up to a larger prize in the end.

I totally agree with that. I absolutely love the way Masahiro Sakurai integrates the concept of achievements into games like Kirby's Air Ride, Super Smash Bros., Kid Icarus Uprising, etc., where you're given a blank board to start with, and as objectives are met, they reveal hints for adjacent tasks... and where some (or all) of the "achievements" also yield unlockables.

RE: Nintendo Achievement awards - Marth - 08-14-2012

As far as unlock-able items go with achievements these days, the 360 does do this on occassion. For example if you get the gnome achievement in Left 4 Dead 2 you get an avatar award. Halo Reach also does this, if you clear certain tasks you unlock the characters' helmets for your avatar.

Again these don't really "do" anything but at least it's something I guess.

I think Kid Icarus Uprising handles "achievements" well. It has these things called "treasure hunts" where if you do certain specific things it gives you a reward like weapons or music for a gallery or a 3D model to view. It's kind of like the Kirby Air Ride achievement thingies.

Smile All good viewpoints everyone. I hope game designers/companies everywhere read these kinds of views when considering how they are going to approach making their games. Any who as promised here is the next game with fictional Achievement awards: Metroid Prime Trilogy disk for the Wii. Oh before I start I want to thank the people who created their own achievement awards for games; F-Zero, Pilot Wings, etc. Nice job! Cool Everyone feel free to create your own awards ideas or add to mine. I'm not really listing these in order to any specific game, but all of these will have to deal with the 3 games. A slash between names means I couldn't choose which name I wanted more. So without further ado here we go:

Mission Complete: Collect all other awards.

Energetic/Tanked: Collect all Energy Tanks.
This sucks: Survive a Metroid infested room.
Varified: Obtain the Varia Suit.
Brain-Freeze: Defeat Mother Brain.
A-Lore-Ing: Collect all Chozo Lores.
Seeing the Light: Travel to the Light World once.
Joining the Dark Side: Travel to the Dark World once.
My Other Side: Encounter and defeat Dark Samus for the first time.
There can only be one: Defeat Dark Samus for the third and final time.
Hunter's Log: Complete all scans in logbook.
Grappler: Obtain the Grapple Beam.
Hidden-Being Corrupted: Successfully complete the hardest mode in Metroid Coruption.
Hidden-Primed and Ready: Successfully complete the hardest mode in Metroid Prime.
Morphin' Time: Obtain the Morph Ball.
Swarmed: Defeat the Totem Hive.
Fully Equiped: Complete Samus's final suit with all upgrades.
Springing into Action: Obtain the Spring Ball.
Wall Crawler: Obtain the Spider Ball.
Completely Screwed: Obtain the Screw Attack.
Marathon Man: Obtain the Speed Booster.
Rocket Man: Obatin all Missle Expansions.
Blinded by the Light: Obtain the Light Beam.
Gravitational Force: Obtain the Gravity Suit.
Archeologist: Collect all Chozo artifacts.
Unphazed: Obtain the Phazon Suit.
Cold Reception: Explore all of Tallon IV.
Making Waves: Obtain the Wave Beam.
Hidden Trophy-She's Waiting: Unlock the best ending in Metroid Prime.
Fallen Comrads: Collect all GFT Scans.
Motorhead: Scan all Vehicles.
Exterminate-Ing: Eradicate all Ing.
Chozo's Judgement: Defeat Ridley for the Final Time.
Simply Dashing: Perform a Light Dash.

Cool Wow! That's really impressive! I've tried to do that good. You must have racked up a lot of hours. Smile Anyone else have any achievement award ideas? I'd love to hear'em! Big Grin

RE: Nintendo Achievement awards - Kami - 08-25-2012

I'd say something for beating each game on the hardest difficulty, without saving, using a map station or using an ammo station once.

Thinking about doing that an capturing it on video once I get my Gaming PC.

Okay Metroid Prime Trilogy is my favorite game on the Wii and none of those achievements really do it justice

A lot of that is still mandatory/easy stuff (and Mother Brain isn't even IN the Metroid Prime Trilogy)

Plus Metroid Prime Trilogy already has an Achievements system

EDIT: Wait have you even played the frakkin' games

The Speed Booster isn't in the Prime Trilogy, it's not a powerup at all, what are you even aaaaaaaaa

RE: Nintendo Achievement awards - Pokemondothon - 08-29-2012

I have a few ideas for Metroid Prime Trilogy Achievements...

Missle-Misled - Completed the game without obtaining any Missle Expansions.
Lethergy- Completed the game without obtaining any Energy Tanks.
Grapple Go-Getter - Attached to at least 10 consecutive Grappling Points without touching the ground.
Morph Master - Spent at least 1/5 of total game time in Morph Ball mode.
Dynamic Dynamo - Roughly equal usage with all Beams (no more than 10% margin between most and least used)
Visor Variety - Used all non-Combat Visors for at least 1/5 of total game time (combined).
Scanty Scanner - Did not use the Scan Visor on any non-activating objects.

Metroid Prime Trilogy is such a great game, by the way... I'm one of the lucky few who hadn't played any of the three games prior to buying it. Shy
