I noticed that, ahaha. I will probably work on it more tomorrow.

I doubt that,

spend more effort, you can do better than this

RE: C+C request, sprite sheet of my persona. - Cobalt Blue - 04-11-2012

in a whole day you barely improved anything.

the flaws in the desing, the animation and shading are still there, and you are not really going to make any progress unless you actually take this on a more serious note.

as it is now, its a worthless scribble that anyone could wipe out in ten minutes. it is up to you work on it, study its flaws and use references when in doubt, and then come here and post when you REALLY made progress. otherwise you'll either be stuck forever with a worthless piece of shit or simply leave the forum belkieving we were either "way too serious lol" or "a bunch of trolls".

you should be aware that this forum and its community take spriting and pixel art quite seriously, and while we are always willingful to offer feedback to those who are willing to improve or expand their skills, we certainly have a limited tolerance for those who would not even bother to try, nor show any real interest in developing and improve their skills.

we believe you can do it because we can all do it. and we will lend you a hand and suport you as much as we can. but if you cant use that support towards your own benefit, then you might as well not bother and avoid us wasting our time on you.

RE: C+C request, sprite sheet of my persona. - LegostormJ - 04-12-2012

Why do I even attempt spriting at all, I can't ever get it right.
Please excuse my complaining. =~=
Oh and Elk, Ive actually spent over 24 hours on this.

RE: C+C request, sprite sheet of my persona. - StarSock64 - 04-12-2012

Wow

shut up

I don't know how you think getting better works, but it's supposed to be this hard. Suck it up and try harder. We all know what it's like to struggle. Stop acting like some sore loser special case and just do it. It's normal to feel the pressure of not doing well at first, but don't sit here and complain all the time, it's making you look bad and it's annoying and it's not helping you.

I've spent weeks on literally one frame, tweaking and redoing it over and over again because I couldn't get it right. Actually, this happens to me really often. Don't complain about how long it takes you to sprite.

RE: C+C request, sprite sheet of my persona. - LegostormJ - 04-12-2012

But it seems like in the time it takes me to make these retarded sprites you guys have made tons of perfect sprites and animations.
I seriously doubt that I will have anything accepted into TFR so I should just give up, except the problem that I have trouble giving stuff up because when I start something I feel like I have a duty to finish the job.
You guys are god-tier compared to me.
Though I'm only 14 so it makes sense.

RE: C+C request, sprite sheet of my persona. - StarSock64 - 04-12-2012

If you're not ready for tfr then don't sprite for tfr; sprite to get better. The reason we're capable of making these sprites and animations is because we've spent a lot of time and effort studying and practicing. Don't feel like it's unfair and that you're missing out on some magic talent pool, we've gone through the same thing and we had to try just as hard in order to get where we are.

RE: C+C request, sprite sheet of my persona. - Gwen - 04-12-2012

It took me 3 days to get an idle done efficiently, this takes time and patience, don't use the "I'm not good enough" excuse, fricking practice, thats what I did, it's taken me years to get where I'm at and I'm still learning, either suck it up or just quit, if you're going to give up this easily.

RE: C+C request, sprite sheet of my persona. - Gors - 04-12-2012

yo

don't get me started on how long I took to complete all the starter three sheets

RE: C+C request, sprite sheet of my persona. - LegostormJ - 04-12-2012

I'm an impatient person, I need to fix that. Tongue
I only wanted to join TFR because it looked fun, but it turned out to be very hard work. Surprise

RE: C+C request, sprite sheet of my persona. - Mutsukki - 04-12-2012

Hard work can be fun too, it's cool when you notice you're growing and improving. TFR is a community project with some strict guidelines for a good reason, that's why you should feel secure about spriting in general first before trying to tackle something that needs to be in a specific style Smile

RE: C+C request, sprite sheet of my persona. - Elk - 04-12-2012

Dont you just want recognition and say "hey i worked for this?"

then work more on it... whatever the hell TFR may be

I don't see 24 hours (!!!!!!!!!!!!!) in this, it was probably like working 20 mins on it, playing a game for the whole day, working another 20 mins, playing again, and so on

From a 14 yearsold of your caliber i would expect more

we are totally aware that you are not "god-tier" or whatever you may call it

RE: C+C request, sprite sheet of my persona. - Gors - 04-12-2012

Quote:whatever the hell TFR may be

um

check the stickied topics in the section. The 56 color palette is TFR's universal palette, it doesn't mean he's using all that.

still, all your other points are valid and legostorm should use better anatomy in the sprites.

RE: C+C request, sprite sheet of my persona. - Speed-X - 04-12-2012

These people may be painfully blunt at times, but in all honesty they mean perfectly well.

Anyway, art is NOT about impatience and getting better in a day. It can take up to years. Like, how people were saying that a few frames took them a matter of days; I know that the idle Snivy GIF I have, for instance, took me a few days to get totally right. Even now, I still think that there could be some improvements.

You need to have a good perception of how things move and such. Hell, when you're not sure, you know what you do? Study. Study. Study. And then practice, practice, practice. That goes for anything. And when you're not sure, ask questions! We're more than glad to help you.

I feel impatient with myself in the presence of greatness, too. I think we all do in a sense; however, learn to channel that into just self-motivation and artistic inspiration. It's similar to learning how to channel jealousy into admiration.

And if you want to improve, you need to have a good degree of seriousness toward what it is you're striving for. Also, don't get too ahead of yourself, either. You need to practice the first thing that's out of your reach before you can climb any higher.

You know how long I've been doing this for? About seven years. And I still have SO much room to improve. That's the beauty of being an artist.
I sucked pretty badly when I started, but so did a lot of us.

Also, don't use age as a handicap or excuse; instead, use years of experience, if anything. Although I don't advise going overboard on excuses. Sometimes you have to take a step back and look at where the other person is coming from...and try to see where you slipped up at. If you can't see anything, then that's okay! Tell the person that, but give some good reasoning. Not everyone who gives you critique knows what they're talking about; and what I mean by that is that they could be mistaken with some things....like how Elk was just now mistaken about the color palette! No offense intended or anything, though, Elk. I have confidence that you do know what you're talking about like 99% of the time or so.
But I digress. Just don't use that as a crutch, either. If you just keep your head up, youll start seeing results. Okay?

RE: C+C request, sprite sheet of my persona. - Gors - 04-12-2012

Finally, to top it off, tFR style is simple but complicated at the same time. While the 64x64 sprite size is plenty of room and using two or thee shades per color easens the shading process a lot, it also is very limiting and the animations must be perfect while keeping a very low number of different frames. Which implies in learning how motion blurs work, how antialiasing works, and even things that don't 100% relate to pixels at all, such as posing, impact, feeling etc.

so, instead of limiting yourself, make sprites in a style that you're more free to improve, just for practice reasons. When you gather enough experience, then you can attempt a more challenging style, such as tFR.
