I remember actually seeing some of these. So Gors, when was the truly first sprite attempt you've ever done?

Code:
It's okay to think about what styles you enjoy and why you enjoy them, but don't get too worried about having to find your style Right The Hell Now. It'll come to you, and it'll evolve as you learn more about drawing.

By the power of motivation, I might make this possible. Found an anatomical design I actually like, and might use it a few times before settling in on it.

That or I need inspiration. most of my "influence" comes from capcom's many character designs, but I might have to expand the influential tree..

Yes, very much this! Besides, as you develop as an artist your style can change quite a bit over time. I myself went from pretty Pokemon-inspired stuff, to generic anime, to Puyo-influenced but with my own touches like making things softer, putting more detail into certain things, etc.

What's more important now is working on things like anatomy, anyway. Work on proportions and stuff and then you'll have an easier time getting nice results in whatever style you work out, since you'll already have an idea of the proportions.

Thing is, I haven't settled on a good leg mass yet. I just need to get that part right, since right now I'm quite happy with the results of the face. With that then I'll toy with photoshop/paint.net for a good style afterwards, seems like a good goal to work forward too.

RE: Comparing the Good, the Bad and the Ugly - Gors - 11-30-2011

my first sprite attempt was lost in the mists of time.

really, I have nothing left, aside from sprite edits I posted on MFGG. I don't remember what was my first 100% custom work, which I regret.

Unless your computer got fried back then when you made your first sprite it should be hidden deep within the bowels of your computer.

Some people say I don't improve...

I do! It just takes me 5 times as long as everyone else

Ah wow, makes me think to re-do the way I make Mega Man sprites.

also, about art techniques,

do not care about styles. Just learn the basics (anatomy, still life, landscapes) and you'll end up developing your own style.

Ive improved alot in the last year and a half. You just have to keep at it. I suggest you make an inspiration folder and start saving stuff you like. Its good to look your inspiration at when you dont feel very motivated. Keep at it =D
