The Loving Couple's 8bit Action/RPG - SmithyGCN - 07-24-2008

Okay people, this is the third topic involving my girlfriend and myself's project since the second one was allowed to drop off the map (my fault entirely).

Here's a little heads up for those who aren't familiar-

Style: 8bit nes and old arcade style
Hardware: On par with 32 bit titles using layered sprites, mode 7, etc.
Main Characters: 2
Gameplay Style: Think modern Castlevania/Odin Sphere/Kingdom Hearts

Premise

Two human beings from the world that we see as reality find themselves lost in a digital world composed of a spacious expanse called Mu with patches of worlds dotting its surface.
Both characters know each other and start out at opposite ends of Mu (The Poles) and are trying to find each other all the while attempting to evade the all watchful Dark Matter who sees them as a virus in his ordered universe.
While the humans are trying to leave this Video Land, they encounter many strange people who all want them involved in their political affairs and their own civil war. The humans don't want to become involved and soon even heroes turn out to have a villainous side. Anyone can become your enemy as any body could have an ulterior motive for helping you find your way home. Even the two pokemon whom serve as your guide through this foreign territory can't be completely trusted.
With an ever growing army of evil and people from various worlds attempting to force you into their service and with you caught in the middle, how can you return to your homeland in one peice?

This story is loosely based off the story of Captain N, so expect references.

RE: The Loving Couple's 8bit Action/RPG - Badassbill - 07-24-2008

Probably been asked before, but how is it being programmed?

RE: The Loving Couple's 8bit Action/RPG - JoshR691 - 07-24-2008

Sprites are awesome! Can't wait to see more

RE: The Loving Couple's 8bit Action/RPG - Eddo - 07-25-2008

Those are really good!

RE: The Loving Couple's 8bit Action/RPG - Tero - 07-25-2008

Still can't wait to see more from this. Big Grin

RE: The Loving Couple's 8bit Action/RPG - SmithyGCN - 07-26-2008

I... am not certain at this point. I am thinking maybe either Stencyl (when it comes out) or Game Maker, but I am unsure as to if either can support mode 7, scale, and rotation effects. :/

Anyway, new sheet:

Dhaos Summon - Even the bosses and enemies can summon their own batch of support forces in addition to your ability to.

He appears, charges up, and unleashes his famous Dhaos Laser on you. He doesn't follow you around before he unleashes it though so it is somewhat easy to dodge.

RE: The Loving Couple's 8bit Action/RPG - SmithyGCN - 07-27-2008

Kuribo's Shoe Item Effect-

This item acts as it did in Super Mario Bros. 3. Nothing different about it save for the fact that you can collect these in an inventory and use at any time, so they're not as rare as they were in SMB3.

New enemy summon:
The Man-Eating Plant from Monster Party.
I really don't like the game, but this is a pretty obscure reference.

"Hey, Baby!"

His only attack is spitting a series of bubbles that bounce endlessly around the room until burst by an attack from the player.
He will continue to spit until you hit him, making him retreat.

RE: The Loving Couple's 8bit Action/RPG - Tero - 07-27-2008

For an 8-Bit bubble that looks awesome beyond belief, also yay Kuribo's shoe.

RE: The Loving Couple's 8bit Action/RPG - Cshad - 07-27-2008

Its not 8-bit per say, more on the NES side of things, and well as many other things in this project.
But thats in the first post an stuff sooo~~
Good job so far

I bet even if I sprited a bunch of dancing girls, this topic would still remain deader than dead. Seriously, no one's commented since TK over here. :p

Anyway, Alchemy Labs tile set for the Castlevania world.

RE: The Loving Couple's 8bit Action/RPG - Teeks - 07-31-2008

Well clearly the people not commenting are idiots. Or jealous. Cause this project has a better turn out than any of the other projects on this board, and it's only got two people working on them!

RE: The Loving Couple's 8bit Action/RPG - A.J. Nitro - 07-31-2008

I love the Gameboy Color style of these sprites.

RE: The Loving Couple's 8bit Action/RPG - Marioman20 - 07-31-2008

i like the style. very classic. almost look's like you're ripping a game already made. Big Grin
