Aside from palette differences that can't be helped due to the style, I'd say that's spot-on perfect.

Amazing job, very nice

We may need to add a few shades to the pallette for snacker. We may have to expand the palette little by little if needed, While still keeping the 2 shade per color rule.

@mutantyoshi: Dang, that looks a lot better than mine, I might attempt to do his belly.
Anyone got any tips for this style? I'm gonna try again, and want to get it right this time. Shotgun Shrapnel!

RE: Banjo-Kazooie Sprite Project! - Kami - 07-23-2012

TBH I don't have any tips, I kind of just do what comes to my mind, If I'm not inspired to do a sprite it won't get done.
I'm more of a person who works with random parts of the sprite without a linear order.

Edit: Bwar and Koopaul(Seems Koopaul went AWOL), I've figured out the best ways to group together things sprited for the project. I have a list for the spritesheets, I'll say it if it's of any interest.

A rare-based style is intresting, I might try my hand with sheeting Banjo and maybe Conga the Ape, although I might need his model as a ref, plus I might need ideas for his run/walk animation as to transilate from 3D render to sprite.

I went and got a set of references for you. I had to boot up the emulator though just in case, the BK viewer's posing doesn't help much aside from angle accuracy
Oh and before anything is said, I uploaded it to that wiki. I'm actually trying to get better quality pictures for that site, it's really quite a hit and miss in quality

While I was at it I got Ticker just for the hell of it. Even though the sprite is done, might help to polish it some if necessary

Nah I'm sure he's just busy with other things right now. Not posting in here for a while doesn't mean he's gone AWOL

And sure, what do you have in mind? I'd love to hear

RE: Banjo-Kazooie Sprite Project! - Garamonde - 07-24-2012

Thanks, I did not have a sideways ref. when I did Ticker so I had to guess at his midsection. I'm going to try to shrink his head and abdomen area today, and leave his midsection as-is because it's certainly small enough.

RE: Banjo-Kazooie Sprite Project! - Shade - 07-24-2012

I really wanted to try the disciple of Jiggywigggy! Cute

It's definitely still a WIP, but I like how it's going so far.

RE: Banjo-Kazooie Sprite Project! - Kami - 07-24-2012

He seems to be missing some shading. I think the linart is good so far though.

That's the part I haven't done yet! Tongue

RE: Banjo-Kazooie Sprite Project! - Garamonde - 07-24-2012

The light source is also coming from the wrong direction, it should be coming from the top-right, unless you already planned to fix that. Tongue

RE: Banjo-Kazooie Sprite Project! - Garamonde - 07-24-2012

Okie let's try this again.

Small enough now? I think it'll have to do because I can't really get much smaller without making his face extremely cramped and un-expressive. Also moved his mouth a bit.

RE: Banjo-Kazooie Sprite Project! - Kami - 07-24-2012

Looks better, also the new snacker is missing from the beta master sheet.

RE: Banjo-Kazooie Sprite Project! - -Bwar- - 07-24-2012

Don't worry, I got it covered

His mouth looks a bit unnoticeable with the color you put there. Maybe teeth would look better? I tried a hand at it below but I'll revert it to your version if you think mine isn't satisfactory.

He's a little bit off perspective, lemme see if I can help

You did an excellent job though with sizing, very nice

RE: Banjo-Kazooie Sprite Project! - Garamonde - 07-24-2012

Well, he does have teeth, but I decided to not add them since it makes him look like he's grinning (I was trying hard to make it look like an angry mouth like he has on the model). Personally I feel like making the mouth white makes it even less noticeable, but I might mess with it a little bit now.

EDIT: Here, I made his mouth red instead. It looks pretty seeable to me now:
