RE: [IDEA] Pokemon Card GB Expansion | New Sprites 3/27/12 - Sengir - 03-28-2012

this is looking good, keep it up!

the options look a little messy, why dont you align the icons in a grid and place the text next to them instead of center-aligning the text in a grid and placing the icons in front?

E: also are your colors coming from the games' palette? some colors look a little off...

RE: [IDEA] Pokemon Card GB Expansion | Expanded Main Dueling Screen! See Last Post/OP - Plino - 03-29-2012

You mean like this?...

Maybe that's not what you meant, but I moved the "Check" and "Pokemon Power" options more near the middle.

Also, no, the colours (not in my card sprites, anyway) are not taken from the GBC palette. I wasn't able to find one from either of the games and compiling a palette myself would be too time consuming...

RE: [IDEA] Pokemon Card GB Expansion | Expanded Main Dueling Screen! See Last Post/OP - Ploaj - 03-29-2012

I like it, It shows all the information needed without looking too cluttered Smile

I'll post a screen shot when I finish fixes a few text issues

Where is Pikachu's level?

RE: [IDEA] Pokemon Card GB Expansion | Expanded Main Dueling Screen! See Last Post - Ploaj - 03-29-2012

It doesn't have a level it's just shiny.

RE: [IDEA] Pokemon Card GB Expansion | Expanded Main Dueling Screen! See Last Post - Garamonde - 03-29-2012

Oh, so shinies don't have levels? Didn't know that.
(P.S. if I ask any dumb-sounding questions it's because I'm not all that familiar with how the TCG works with things like that)

RE: [IDEA] Pokemon Card GB Expansion | Expanded Main Dueling Screen! See Last Post - Ploaj - 03-29-2012

I didn't know either until I looked at the card lol

RE: [IDEA] Pokemon Card GB Expansion | Expanded Main Dueling Screen! See Last Post - Plino - 03-29-2012

Cards lost their levels starting in Expedition Base Set. I believe that the level, length, weight, etc. is only accessible if you scan the card through an e-Reader (both of which I lack). The on-card level didn't return until the Diamond & Pearl expansion, but then it was done away with again some time after that. That Pikachu card was released in EX Holon Phantoms, which was before Diamond & Pearl. So no level.

Gonna post up Suicune from Neo Revelation tonight!

Here it is-

I'd love to see an actual PC TCG for Pokémon. I remember they did make one, but it only had like 2 levels, and a set number of cards - and no real overworld mobility.

I just think that'd be really awesome - TCG on the gameboy was one of the best gameboy games made, imo. Shame they've not made a new one in so long.

RE: [IDEA] Pokemon Card GB Expansion | New Sprites 3/29/12 - Ploaj - 03-30-2012

I'm working on the engine of the game for PC so that will eventually be a reality Smile

Whoops, looks like I previewed my post earlier but completely forgot to submit it. Stupid me.

Anyway, I saw this while browsing on the internet on my not-so-smart smartphone this morning and I was thoroughly interested. I decided to give one a try.

Cute

Oh, and a quick word of advice: you aren't always restricted to just black. Be creative! A lot of the time a pure black color doesn't look right; instead experiment with, for instance, a much darker version of the main body color. Not too dark, though, because you don't want too much contrast. Yes, I'm quite well aware of the fact that most contributors are trying to mimic the style of the original card art; nonetheless, this is still pixel art!
For instance, the second Feraligatr in Neo Genesis looks nice with the light black; it's easier on the eyes. Also, I'd advise using a more off-white color in most cases, but that's at times just a personal preference.
Improvise! Cute

Hm. That wasn't very quick, was it?

Also, I'm gonna try Meganium from Neo Gen (the first one, #10/111) if that's okay.

Woah, really? I didn't know that! Hm, I must investigate immediately.

And concerning a story line... when I started this project, my main objective was adding cards. However, seeing as you're the second person to post about a story, maybe after development for the engine gets far enough along, we can work on a story line too. After all, why stop at simply dueling? I'll have to contact a certain fellow by the name of Sponge who was the first to post about a story here.

Speed-X: That's an amazing Lugia card! Thanks a bunch. Thanks also for posting the code for linking to the stock image, that really does save me a lot of trouble, ha ha.

Yeah, I know I'm not restricted to black... The reason why I usually keep black though, isn't intentional. When I start a card, I start with black and white, and make my palette as I go. Usually, if I haven't gotten to close to my colour limit, I don't bother changing the black and white. It's mainly when I reach seven or eight colours that I go into "thrifty colours" mode and begin substituting black and white to conserve palette space. But now that you mention it, you're right, it does look nicer. I think what I'll do from now on is substitute black and white at the beginning. Thanks for the advice!

Finally, just one tiny little thing... would you mind adding a border to your Lugia card? All of the card sprites thus far (both the ones from this project and from the games) have had borders, and so I'd like to keep it standard. I also don't like editing other peoples' sprites. It feels wrong somehow, ha ha. If you could just fix up that little thing it'd be great!

Wrapped up the legendary beast art.

Hahahah, no, I wasn't really referring to you when I was mentioning that, mainly some of the others. Just a note to whomever it may concern, I guess! You're welcome though. Also, thanks!

Oh! But of course, no trouble at all.
